February Ministry Update

Another month has flown by! Here are some ways that the Lord has been moving over the past month!

Winter camp group photo 2009 (only 10 years ago!)

Looking at these two photos from Winter camp blows me away. Ten years ago I was twelve and in middle school. FOCUS was founded in 1998 when I was two. Twenty-one years later I'm on staff with FOCUS in Arlington. My life has been deeply blessed by this community. It has taught me how to really follow Jesus and be His disciple through meaningful, Christ-like community. So many sweet friendships that have brought healing and walked with me through my junk. I'm not sure if I would be as on fire for the Lord if God hadn't brought me to this community. I am so excited to see how God moves in this community over the next ten years. There are middle school students now that God wants to bring into this community when they come to college. Two year olds that he wants to save. That is the vision. The work we do now isn't just for the students involved now but for the students that will be involved. We get to be a part of God's long-term plan for college students in the DFW area. What an honor!

Winter camp is always a blast and this year was no exception. This year we had Dr. John Stackhouse from Crandall University come speak to our students and what a blessing that was. Dr. Stackhouse talked to us about our identity as humans to bring shalom (peace, wholeness, harmony, completeness) to the earth as well as our identity as Christians to make and mature disciples. The Lord really used this weekend to transform us by the renewing of our minds as we continued to learn how to be disciples. (You can listen to the lectures from winter camp on our website here!)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2

Fun on the trampoline!

UTA core at winter camp. Love these girls!
I need to be better about taking DBU pictures but we have been having such a blast over there the past few weeks. In an effort to build more of a culture and community at DBU we have decided to combine the two cores at least once a month. The first one we did was so successful. Everyone was so engaged in the conversation that we ran out of time! Please be praying for deep community at DBU and that God would raise up student leaders that are bought into the mission there.

Make sure you check out the student testimony below!

Many Blessings,
Emily Umstead

  1. Wow I was in that winter camp photo from ten years ago!! It really is so incredible to see God's work when we look back over the years. He has been doing big things through FOCUS, and I know He still has exciting plans for our community!

Thanks for sharing the cute pics of your Core girls. Keep up the good work!
